I believe that’s what all these cats are thinking when they have a baby. They want the mama to charge in, then she can get her and feed for a week or a meal for her pride.
I agree that the lion was using the baby as bait. One other thing I notice in these videos where lions “play” with baby prey is that the lions that do this are remarkably healthy and obviously well fed. They have the luxury of using these babies as bait. Some of the lions we see in videos with their rib cages showing would immediately settle for this small snack.
